What types of IRS audits can be reviewed?
The IRS may conduct an examination by mail or through an in-person interview, commonly described as a correspondence, office, or field examination. Availability and scope depend on the taxpayer, returns, issues, records, deadlines, location, and current capacity. An initial review does not guarantee that representation will be accepted.
What should I gather for the scope review?
Have the complete IRS examination letter, every enclosure and information request, the tax returns and years involved, the printed response date, a summary of prior contact, and an inventory of the requested records. Do not send Social Security numbers, returns, bank records, or the audit letter through the public form or ordinary email.
Can a CPA communicate with the IRS examiner for me?
CPAs generally have unlimited representation rights before the IRS, including audits, subject to the matter, professional eligibility, a signed engagement, and a valid taxpayer authorization. Agency communication begins only when representation is expressly accepted and the required authorization, commonly Form 2848, is completed.
Does representation guarantee a no-change result?
No. The IRS may close an audit with no change, agreed changes, or disputed proposed changes. Tavella CPA Group does not guarantee an outcome, penalty removal, tax reduction, appeal, or acceptance of a position.
Is an IRS audit the same as a routine tax notice?
No. A routine balance, matching, payment, or penalty notice may be handled through tax-notice assistance. This service is for an IRS examination of a return or records. If the correspondence is unclear, the initial scope review can identify the more appropriate service path.
Does this include legal or Tax Court representation?
No. Tavella CPA Group does not provide legal advice or Tax Court representation. A matter involving criminal allegations, litigation, privilege concerns, or another legal issue may require a tax attorney, and any coordination would be separately scoped.
How do I upload documents?
After engagement setup, use the secure client portal and the upload instructions provided by Tavella CPA Group. Do not send Social Security numbers, tax returns, bank information, or other sensitive documents through the public contact form or ordinary email.
Is this service cloud-based?
Yes. Organizers, secure document uploads, messages, electronic signatures, invoices, and final documents can be handled online through the appropriate secure workflow.
How long will preparation take?
Timing depends on the service, complexity, completeness of the information provided, filing deadline, and current availability. Expected timing is discussed when the scope is confirmed; submitting a consultation request does not reserve a filing deadline.
