2026 LLC TAX DEADLINES

2026 LLC Tax Deadlines by Federal Tax Classification

See 2026 federal LLC tax deadlines for single-member LLCs, partnerships, S corporations, and C corporations, including extension and payment rules.

An LLC does not have one federal income-tax deadline. Its filing date depends on its federal tax classification. For 2025 calendar-year returns filed in 2026, an individual-owned single-member LLC reported with Form 1040 was due April 15, 2026, or October 15 with a timely extension. A multi-member LLC taxed as a partnership and an LLC taxed as an S corporation were due March 16, or September 15 with a timely extension. An LLC taxed as a C corporation was due April 15, or October 15 with a timely extension. An extension gives additional time to file, not additional time to pay.

An LLC's deadline depends on its federal tax classification

An LLC is a business structure created under state law, not one federal income-tax classification. The IRS generally treats a domestic single-member LLC as part of its owner's return and a domestic LLC with at least two members as a partnership unless the LLC elects corporate treatment. An eligible LLC may instead be taxed as an S corporation or C corporation.

These distinctions determine which federal return is filed and which deadline applies. First confirm the LLC's classification; do not choose a date based only on the letters “LLC” in its legal name.

The table covers ordinary calendar-year 2025 federal income-tax returns filed during 2026. A timely, valid extension is required to use the extended filing date.

A single-member LLC owned by another entity generally reports through that owner. Fiscal-year entities, disaster-relief areas, state filings, payroll returns, sales-tax returns, and other obligations can have different dates.

When is a single-member LLC tax return due in 2026?

An individual-owned single-member LLC that is disregarded for federal income-tax purposes ordinarily does not file a separate federal income-tax return. Its activity is generally reported on Schedule C, Schedule E, or Schedule F with the owner's Form 1040.

The 2025 Form 1040 deadline was April 15, 2026. A timely Form 4868 generally extended the filing deadline to October 15, 2026. The owner still had to address tax due by the regular deadline.

When is a multi-member LLC return due in 2026?

A calendar-year domestic LLC with at least two members is generally taxed as a partnership unless it elects corporate treatment. Its 2025 Form 1065 and Schedules K-1 were due March 16, 2026 because March 15 fell on a Sunday.

A timely, valid Form 7004 generally extended the filing deadline to September 15, 2026. Review the separate partnership deadline page for K-1 timing, owner coordination, and late-return considerations.

When is an LLC taxed as an S corporation due?

A calendar-year LLC with an effective S corporation election files Form 1120-S. Its 2025 return and Schedules K-1 were due March 16, 2026. A timely, valid Form 7004 generally extended the filing deadline to September 15, 2026.

The annual return deadline is different from the Form 2553 election deadline. Extending Form 1120-S also does not extend payroll filings, the shareholder's individual return, or the time to make required payments.

When is an LLC taxed as a C corporation due?

A calendar-year LLC taxed as a C corporation files Form 1120. Its 2025 federal return and tax due were generally due April 15, 2026. A timely, valid Form 7004 generally extended the filing deadline to October 15, 2026.

The extension did not move the regular payment deadline. Fiscal-year corporations, June 30 year-ends, short years, foreign corporations, and other special situations can follow different rules.

Does an LLC extension give more time to pay?

No. Form 4868 and Form 7004 generally extend the time to file, not the time to pay. Tax due generally remains payable by the original return deadline. Form 7004 requires a proper estimate, timely filing, and payment of tax due under its instructions. Interest can accrue on unpaid tax after the regular deadline.

Extending Form 1065 or Form 1120-S does not extend a partner's or shareholder's Form 1040. The owner must separately address the owner-level return, extension, withholding, and estimated-payment requirements.

Estimated-tax dates are separate from LLC return deadlines

For calendar-year individuals who must make federal estimated payments for 2026, the general Form 1040-ES installment dates are April 15, June 15, and September 15, 2026, followed by January 15, 2027. Whether payments are required and how much to pay depend on the owner's broader facts.

An entity filing extension does not change these owner-level dates. C corporations that must make estimated payments use a separate corporate schedule.

State, payroll, and sales-tax deadlines are separate

A federal income-tax extension does not create one nationwide state extension. State income or franchise-tax returns, annual reports, state fees, payroll filings and deposits, sales-tax returns, information returns, and local obligations may each use different rules.

Disaster relief can postpone some deadlines for eligible taxpayers, but the covered locations, taxpayers, forms, and dates must be checked in the applicable IRS or state notice.
