Does living abroad automatically eliminate the U.S. filing requirement?
No. U.S. citizens and resident aliens generally remain subject to U.S. filing rules on worldwide income while abroad. Whether a return or additional form is required depends on filing thresholds, income, tax status, accounts, assets, elections, treaties, and other facts.
Does the foreign earned income exclusion mean no U.S. return is needed?
No. A qualifying foreign earned income exclusion is claimed on a filed U.S. return and requires its own eligibility analysis. It does not automatically cover every type of income or eliminate every tax, information-reporting requirement, state issue, or filing obligation.
Is the foreign tax credit always better than the foreign earned income exclusion?
No general choice is best for everyone. The income type, foreign tax, country, dates, family facts, housing amounts, carryovers, other U.S. tax items, and future years can affect the comparison. Any projection or election analysis is separate from routine return preparation unless included in writing.
Can an expat still need a U.S. state tax return?
Potentially. A prior state may apply its own residency, domicile, source-income, filing-threshold, and administrative rules. State work is not automatically included with the federal return; each accepted state and tax year is listed in the engagement.
Are foreign bank accounts reported only when they earn income?
Not necessarily. Foreign-account and foreign-asset reporting can depend on ownership, authority, account type, value, filing status, residence, and other facts, not only whether an account produced taxable income. FBAR and Form 8938 requirements must be reviewed separately.
Does Tavella CPA Group prepare the return required by my country of residence?
No foreign-country return is promised. The service is limited to accepted U.S. federal and state work. You may need a qualified professional in the other country, and any coordination is separately scoped.
How do I upload documents?
After engagement setup, use the secure client portal and the upload instructions provided by Tavella CPA Group. Do not send Social Security numbers, tax returns, bank information, or other sensitive documents through the public contact form or ordinary email.
Is this service cloud-based?
Yes. Organizers, secure document uploads, messages, electronic signatures, invoices, and final documents can be handled online through the appropriate secure workflow.
How long will preparation take?
Timing depends on the service, complexity, completeness of the information provided, filing deadline, and current availability. Expected timing is discussed when the scope is confirmed; submitting a consultation request does not reserve a filing deadline.
